‘I’m a Financial Wellbeing Officer at Carer Support Wiltshire and Dorset, and I am thrilled to be part of the Carer Money Matters Team. This project is something that’s very close to my heart, and I’m passionate about helping unpaid carers navigate the financial challenges that often come with their caring roles.
On a personal note, I also have experience as an unpaid carer, and I know just how tough it can be. Looking back, I can see how valuable a resource a project like this would have been during that time, which is why I am so determined to help carers in any way I can. I truly believe that this service can make a significant difference, especially when it comes to providing guidance and ensuring that carers get all the support and financial entitlements they deserve.
One of my main passions is making sure carers are fully aware of all the support options available to them. Whether it’s helping them access the financial benefits they are entitled to or assisting with much-needed respite breaks, I’m here to offer that guidance. I also understand that the pressures of caring can sometimes lead to financial difficulties, including debt. That’s why I’m especially committed to offering support in these areas and ensuring carers feel empowered to take control of their financial wellbeing.
My previous jobs have always been in care, having worked as a family support worker for children and families, as well as in education. Through these experiences, I have had the privilege of supporting unpaid carers, and I’ve seen first-hand how vital it is to provide the right kind of help. Ensuring that carers have access to education and work is crucial, as it not only empowers them with skills and financial independence but also allows them to balance their caregiving responsibilities with their personal growth. This is why the Carer Money Matters project resonates with me so much—its aim is to alleviate the financial strain carers face and empower them to feel supported and confident in managing their finances, ultimately helping them access opportunities for education and employment.
