Carer Support Dorset, who support unpaid carers across the Dorset Council area, is celebrating today after being awarded £9,600 in funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK.
Carer Support Dorset will use their funding to run a series of arts workshops across the county during Carers Week (6-12 June).
This new National Lottery funding will allow Carer Support Dorset to work with The Arts Development Company to run eight arts workshops with different artists for Dorset’s unpaid carers across the week.
The workshops will run at the following venues:
Monday 6 June
Winterborne Whitechurch Village Hall:
10am-12noon: Play with Clay Workshop.
2pm-4pm: Cloudscape Workshop.
Dorset Carers Hub, 28 South Street, Dorchester:
10am-12noon: Puppet Workshop.
2pm-4pm: Music Making Workshop.
Wednesday 8 June
Gillingham Library:
10am-12noon and 1pm-3pm: Introduction to Lino Printmaking Workshops.
Friday 10 June
The Beacon Room, St Mary’s Church, Ferndown:
11am-1pm: Movement and Dance Workshop.
2-4pm: Singing Workshop.
In addition to this, carers will be able to help decorate venues for Carers Week by receiving free bunting packs made by The Wayward Adventurers Guild.

National Lottery players raise over £30 million a week for good causes across the UK. The National Lottery Community Fund distributes a share of this to projects to support people and communities to prosper and thrive.

They work tirelessly to look after their loved ones, often with little or no reward. By running these workshops, we hope to help reduce the isolation that carers can face as well as giving carers the opportunity to learn new skills.”
During the pandemic, in 2020 alone, The National Lottery Community Fund distributed almost £1 billion to charities and community organisations across the UK.
