As autumn approaches, we want to remind all unpaid carers about the important updates regarding COVID-19 vaccinations. With the cooler months here, it’s crucial to consider your health, especially if you’re caring for someone vulnerable.
This autumn, the NHS is providing a free vaccine, often referred to as the ‘Autumn Booster’. It’s designed to help protect those who may be at greater risk of severe illness from COVID-19, as previous vaccinations may begin to lose their effectiveness. It is important to note that this year unpaid carers are not eligible for this jab, however, if you fall into one of the other eligible groups you can still receive your free booster.
This year, eligible groups include:
- Adults aged 65 and over
- Residents in care homes for older adults
- Individuals aged 6 months to 64 years in clinical risk groups (you can find more information on this here – COVID-19: the green book, chapter 14a – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk))
- Frontline NHS and social care workers
Find out more about the Covid-19 booster here – Who’s eligible for the 2024 COVID-19 vaccine, or ‘Autumn Booster’? – UK Health Security Agency (blog.gov.uk)
We encourage all who are eligible to take advantage of this chance to stay well this autumn.
