Do you have experience of caring for someone such as a family member, friend, neighbour? Could you help our GP practices to develop better support for unpaid carers?
Mid Dorset Primary Care Network (PCN) are looking for people with experience of caring for someone to join a working group that will help its GP practices provide better support for carers.
The small working group will have roughly 8-10 members all of whom have some responsibility for providing support for carers in their professional roles. However, the most important voice that needs to be heard is that of carers themselves. An initial meeting will take place in October 2022 and the group will then decide how often it should meet over the next year.
The working group will be responsible for developing, monitoring and supporting the running of the Better Care for Carers accreditation scheme for GP Practices in Mid Dorset locality. The scheme aims to set standards for our GP practices in Mid Dorset to demonstrated that they are providing high-quality and consistent advice, information and support for their registered patients who are unpaid carers. A scheme like this has been successfully established in Wiltshire in the past 8 years and North Dorset successfully piloted the scheme in Dorset in 2019. Mid Dorset aims to expand on this success.
